History

WMS was established in 2005, upon Wrightson’s exiting the Forestry Industry. Carl Hanna saw an opening to provide personalised harvesting and marketing services to forest and woodlot owners in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, who had often been underwhelmed by the level of services from other forestry companies.

Since then the business has rapidly expanded to become one of the larger private suppliers of forest harvesting and marketing services in the North Island. This success is a direct result of strong client and industry relationships, with a large amount of work coming from referrals. WMS has a solid team of proven contractors and prides its self on using local contractors where possible. WMS has strong ties with a number of key domestic and export log customers to maximise client returns, in a wide geographical spread.

The Team

Wood Marketing is owned and managed by 2 shareholders: Carl Hanna, and Duncan Mills.

 

Carl Hanna, BSc (Tech) Forestry, NZCFBased in Rotorua, has a broad knowledge base of the forestry industry built from numerous roles in forest management over 20+ years and across a number of forestry companies, Tasman Forestry, Fletcher Challenge Forests, Norske Skog Pulp and Paper, Wrightsons Ltd. Corporate experience in harvesting, woodflow and forestry management, before moving on to specialise in private forest management and harvesting. 

 

Duncan Mills, BSc (Tech) Forestry –: Based in the Waikato, spent a number of years with Carter Holt Harvey in operational harvesting roles within the Forestry business, before moving to the Pulp and Paper division in a commercial procurement role. Extensive experience in harvesting systems and planning, stumpage procurement and valuation, woodflow scheduling, log sales and contract management.

We are supported by our team of six staff in administration and operational positions.

We as the business owners deal directly with clients to provide a hands-on service to ensure the best result for your forest or woodlot. At the end of the day it’s our reputation and livelihood on the line so we have to get it right!
