Rotoma Forest is approximately 1300 ha of mature forest surrounding the shores of Lake Rotoma in the Bay of Plenty, which is owned by the shareholders of the Rotoma No1 Incorporation. After an extensive tender process to select a harvest manager, Wood Marketing Services was selected to manage the Harvesting and Marketing for Rotoma No1 Incorporation, using an open book managed sale approach. The harvesting of Rotoma Forest began in winter 2013, and is set to be a 5-6 year ongoing harvest program involving both ground based and cable logging crews.

Result

Wood Marketing has worked openly and closely with Rotoma No1 Incorporation committee, to achieve strong results across operational and financial outcomes, as this substantial forest investment is harvested. Marketing options for the log volume being produced include a range of local domestic mills to maximise high value logs and an ongoing export program through the Port of Tauranga. Contractors for logging, cartage and roading have been selected for the initial stages of harvest in Rotoma Forest, thru an open process with the committee to ensure the key values, of the Rotoma No1 Incorporation were meet.
